Super Furry Animals - Something 4 The Weekend CDS

Just such a good band. Such a good single. And another find in the Raves From The Grave archives. I was actually going to put the 7" of this single up, but having found this one with its extra b-sides I feel I'd be letting everyone down if I didn't share it.

The first b-side, 'Waiting To Happen', is bloody great. Again, they've come up with a b-side which could quite happily sit on the album. And is better than many bands of the time ever wrote at all. Great stuff. The second is a Welsh-language track, pretty laid back, and drenched in reverb. Lovely. I think the other version of the title track is a session version, so it's live, and of course is played faster than it should be, as is traditional.

3. Arnofio/Glo In The Dark
4. Something For The Weekend

Here they'm.

  1. Track 4 is actually the album version, not live. Not sure that they ever did a session version of this song. Great song tho'!

  2. Hello! Hoping this works, don't have any of the accounts in the drop-down list so it may not! [okay, so just created a "blogger" profile] Found your site this evening whilst searching for The Delgados "Pull the Wires from the Wall", which all came from seeing the word "Peloton" whilst looking at sports photos on the Guardian. Not quite six degrees of separation, but typical of how my endless surfing sessions start!
Anyway, just wanted to say thank you, I have gone for a few choice cuts ans I look forward to sampling them! I've enjoyed reading your posts, and I particularly like the "when storing singles didn't strain relationships..." comment!
    Long may it continue!

    1. Hello. Sorry not to reply for so long, but it's really nice to get comments like this, and I'm so glad you've enjoyed poking around the blog. Been a bit quiet these last few weeks, but I've got some more stuff just about ready, which I hope you'll enjoy. Thanks again.

Does the word "peloton" appear in that single?!

    2. Hello! No, indeed, that is all part of the convolution! Was looking through some classic sports photos on the Guardian (yeah, I know) and saw mention of the word "Peloton", which I'd never heard other than the Delgados album. So I searched and discovered that the term was all about cycling, and that the Delgados named themselves after a cyclist, hence the name of the album! All good stuff, and as I said typical of how a quick look online escalates into hours of random surfing!
I've bought the Longpigs "Lost Myself" single on CD off the back of your generous postings, and would gladly do so with many others if it was possible (i.e. they still existed for sale), but of course it isn't and so that is what makes this site so special. Will check out the latest post, keep going!

  4. Just discovered this blog through a Google search (can't now remember what for). What a labour of love. Thank you from Down Under. You've made me want to visit Frome (pronounced Froom). No mean feat.

    1. Hi there. Thanks very much for the comment - really appreciate it. Frome is great. You should time your visit for the first Sunday of the month, because they have a great secondhand record stall at the farmers' market.

Although I guess it would work out quite expensive still.

I'm afraid I don't think I have any of the singles you're after. That's bad, isn't it. But I'll keep an eye out next time I'm digging around in basements...

  5. Do you have any Waterboys/Mike Scott/Go-Betweens/Robert Forster/Grant McLennan singles?
